Why You Need to Fill Your Bucket List with Abundance

Who has a list of things they want in life? Probably all of us, whether it’s a physical list or one we know in our head. We all want that one car, the home of our dreams, vacations across the globe, a rockin’ body, and a million dollars. We want more: more money, more time, more things, more days off, more, more, more.

But how often do we talk about the things that we want that we already have?

It’s an interesting thing, creating a list of dreams. We generally only think about the things that lack. We talk about the things that want, assuming that want means that it can’t already be in our possession.

But why can’t we both want something and already have it?

Don’t we all want to have health? A warm home? Family and friends that support us and value us for who we are? A significant other who loves us? A joy we feel fulfilled by? Food to eat every day, a bathroom to clean ourselves in, a car to get from place to place 

Too often our lists of things we want in life skip these things. Instead of being grateful for the things we have – so grateful that we think about them regularly – we only talk about what we are lacking, what we don’t have right now.

What if our dreams came from a place of recognizing the abundance that’s already in our lives? As far as I’m concerned, thinking about our “want list” from a place of lack only reminds us what we don’t have. It does the absolute opposite of gratitude.

When I make a list of the things I want in life, I realize it doesn’t include a whole lot. I can write a list all day long of things I don’t have that would be nice to own, or do, or create, etc.

But when it comes from a place of abundance, when I’m truly thinking about the things that are really important to me, it gets simpler. I want my family, I want friends, I want a beautiful home, I want a career as a life coach, I want my health, I want to travel, I want continual learning, I want to connect with others, I want to create my own work schedule, I want to feel confident in who I am, I want to be respected by my peers. In fact, when I really get down to the list of things that are important to me, I can’t even come up with twenty.
