How many of you have heard the book "What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast: How to Achieve More at Work and at Home" by Laura Vanderkam? In this book, she talks about what CEOs, millionaires, and other highly profitable people do before they sit down for a plate of eggs and bacon. Some spend time with family, others get emails answered before the chaos of the day, and some focus on getting their exercise in before that first cup of coffee is brewed. Here are my best tips for beginning your day the right way.
The very first thing I do after I wake up in the morning (besides feed the cat, of course) is meditate. Literally, I don't even get out of bed first. Studies show that we actually wake in stressed mindset in the mornings (especially if we're relying on alarm clocks to get out of bed). Therefore, meditating in the morning is the fastest and easiest way for me to recalibrate my brain and prep for the day ahead.

2. Drink Water
Your body dehydrates during sleep, so one of the best ways to start your morning in the right place for your body is to immediately drink a full glass of water after getting out of bed. Now, I'll admit this is a hard one for me -- hydration is one of my biggest challenges. But it's so imperative to drink enough water for a multitude of reasons: it's good for your body, your brain, your appearance, fights fatigue, helps weight loss, the list literally goes on and on. So one glass of water upon waking up? Shouldn't even be a problem.
3. Set Intentions for the Day
There is no greater peace than beginning your day knowing exactly what you want to accomplish, and how to do so. Not only do I try to set my plan for the day in the morning, but I also verbally set my intention for the day. Sometimes it's as simple a reminder as "life takes me where I need to go." Other times, I go a bit more in depth. This is one of my favorite ways to verbally set out my intention for the day:
I surrender to this day knowing only what is in my best interest lies before me. Help me to be of service in a way that also best serves me spiritually, emotionally, physically, and financially. Protect me from any negative energy in the world around me.
This is a calming practice for me, as it allows me to remind myself that no matter what comes my way, it is something I can manage and something that is truly in my best interest, even if it doesn't seem that way at the time.
